It’s Premier League match time at Villa Park on Saturday, December 11, when Aston Villa host West Brom Albion in match week 17.
Like most Brits we craved for a bit of winter sun as well as the current weather inside the UK quite considerably pushed us onto a plane without too considerably resistance.
Of course us Brits adore Spain because of its close proximity and abundance of English speaking residents specially inside the South. However we had a hankering for something that got us close towards the warmer parts but not the “bucket and spade brigade”.
Aston Villa are coming off a disappointing 3-0 loss to Liverpool, their fourth defeat on the trot. With just one win in their last 10 games, Villa are low on confidence.
I was a bit hesitant at having to drive 45 minutes from Malaga Airport up the coast and into the hills but in reality the drive was so effortless on 1 straight road I had absolutely nothing to fear.
We landed at Malaga around 2pm (a most sensible time to fly), collected our rental car from underneath Malaga Airport (one of Malaga Airports biggest selling points) and by 4pm was sitting on the villa balcony comfortably warm holding a great glass of chilled wine.
Villan’s only scoring chance came quickly following the break when Agbonlahor took a shot at objective off a Downing cross only to see Reina bring off a half-save cleared by Konchesky.
Below was Lake Vinuela a beautiful blue ocean tucked between the rolling hills. We already felt relaxed.
Two back-to-back wins have taken the Baggies to ninth position in the table. After they went ahead on 32 minutes via a Tchoyi strike, Newcastle got an chance to equalise instantly after the interval but Carson was equalt towards the task as he saved a Taylor shot.
Di Matteo’s squad were helpful in defence even as they negated the twin threats of Carroll and Ameobi, and when Odemwingie scored on 71 minutes, he had secured the game for Albion.
Inside the air conditioned villa we had every little thing we needed. three smart bedrooms, two clean bathrooms, modern kitchen, lounge and diner all kitted out with dwelling comforts. not that we had been going to invest a great deal of time here but it was nice to know we had been not going to slum it. Outside we had our own private pool, brick BBQ region and sun terrace with amazing views down the hillside.
After 16 match weeks, Aston Villa are in 16th position inside the points table, on the brink of the relegation zone, even though West Brom have jumped up to ninth.
