The young players most likely enjoy the game of soccer when they are continuously scoring goals. When planning your practice schedule, you can include youth soccer drills that offer numerous opportunities to players to score goals.
Use small sided games, full field scrimmages, and shooting drills to create opportunities for them. It’s better to keep diverging the process in kids soccer drills, when performing small sided games and full field scrimmages.
You also have the choice to add games that can be played without a goalkeeper or where a goalie’s movement can be restricted within given boundaries. With a view to boost the chances of increasing the number of goals scored, add more goals or expand the ones that are already in use.
When young players improve in their shooting technique and the tactical knowledge about the shooting techniques, the chances of goal production are increased manifold. Just like passing skills, shooting techniques should be introduced to players at the beginner stage. These can be then emphasized more strongly at the later stages of a player’s development.
In youth soccer practice, one of the most effective ways to improve shooting skills is through using drills. With a view to score goals efficiently, players should perform shooting drills and develop their shooting skills. However, make sure that your player’s develop their shooting skills gradually.
Several youth soccer drills can be planned in away that they develop the player’s shooting skills in the sequence given below;
1. A stationery player kicking a stationery ball.
2. A static ball being shot by a moving player.
3. A stationary player shooting a moving ball.
4. A moving player being shot by a moving player.
It should be an imperative part of youth soccer coaching to help the players hit the ball effectively while shooting. A lot of players have the tendency to take shots from the close range using the inside of their feet. This has the effect of enhancing the shooting accuracy.
In situations when a lot more power is required, the players should be trained to use the instep of their foot to strike the ball. Their toes should be downwards and the ankles should be locked.
How the non-kicking foot is placed determines the elevation of the shoot. Instruct the players to place their non-kicking foot slightly away from the ball. This will keep the shot lower to the ground. Ensure that the players focus on striking the ball. Getting rid of all the distracting elements helps them focus better.
As the players improve their shooting technique, raise the difficulty level in the practice games. As an example, when they show improvement with their shooting, make them work with the balls at increased speed and levels.
